Like many of its neighboring communities, Banning was originally Native American settlement. The city took its name from stagecoach owner Phineas Banning, and proudly proclaims itself “Stagecoach Town USA.” Early on, Banning was a stop on the stagecoach line, and later for the railroad, as well. Incorporated in 1913, the Riverside County city is conveniently located on Interstate 10 and now has a population of about 30,000.
